Tenements, stair doors and walking distance
In much of Edinburgh the letterbox is not on the street. Tenements in Marchmont, Leith, Gorgie and Bruntsfield sit behind a shared stair door with an entry system, so the only way to reach every flat reliably is with the daily post. That is why Royal Mail Door to Door does most of the work in the city centre and inner suburbs.
Edinburgh households are also less likely to drive than the Scottish average, with 38% having no car or van. Local shops, cafes, gyms and clinics can draw a tight walking catchment around a site and know that the homes in it are likely customers.
Further out, places like Corstorphine, Liberton and the Lothian towns are mainly houses, where our GPS tracked teams can cover streets around a store or new development. The EH area also includes West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian, so Livingston, Bathgate, Dalkeith and Musselburgh can sit in the same plan.

Edinburgh leaflet distribution questions
Can leaflets reach tenement flats in Edinburgh?
It can, with Royal Mail Door to Door. Your leaflet travels with the daily post, so it reaches every flat in a stair, even where the street door has an entry system.
How many homes are in the EH postcode?
Royal Mail’s October 2026 count shows 478,712 residential addresses across 132 postcode sectors, with around 260,000 in the city of Edinburgh itself.
Does the EH area include Livingston and the Lothians?
Yes. EH covers West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian as well as the city, so towns such as Livingston, Bathgate, Dalkeith and Musselburgh can be included in one campaign.
When should I avoid dropping leaflets in Edinburgh?
August is busy in the city centre during the festivals, with many short term lets and visitors. For local residents, we often recommend avoiding central sectors that month or planning around it.
Is Edinburgh good for small local campaigns?
Very. With 38% of households having no car, people tend to use what is nearby, so a tight catchment around your shop or clinic can work well.
Do you deliver to Leith and the waterfront developments?
Yes. Leith, Newhaven and the newer waterfront blocks are mostly flats, so we use Royal Mail Door to Door to make sure every household receives your leaflet.
